The State Data Centre (SDC) has been identified as one of core infrastructure projects under NeGP of Government of India and has been envisioned as the 'Shared, reliable and secure infrastructure services centre for hosting and managing the e-Governance Applications of State and its constituent departments.

The proposal for setting up of Haryana State Data Centre was approved by Department of IT, Ministry of Communications & IT, Govt. of India vide their letter No.3(12)/08-EG-II dated 03.04.2008 with a total plan outlay of Rs.50.68 crores. Out of which, a contribution of Rs.13.50 crores was to be made by Department of Information Technology, Govt. of India and the balance 37.18 crores was to be met through Additional Central Assistance (ACA) for National e-Governance plan (NeGP) provisions of planning commission.

The Haryana state data centre is co-located with State Network Management Centre already established under Haryana State Wide Area Network at New Secretariat Haryana sector 17, Chandigarh.

All the applications and the related data base shall be housed at this State Data center. The Haryana State data Centre once established shall facilitate the consolidation of services, applications and infrastructure and would provide much functionality. Some of the key functionalities the following:- " Central data repository " Secure Data Storage " Online Delivery of Services " Citizen Information/Services Portal " State Intranet Portal " Disaster Recovery " Remote Management and Service Integration

Haryana State Data Centre will act as a mediator and convergence point between open unsecured public domain and sensitive government environment. It will enable various State departments to host their services/applications on a common infrastructure leading to ease of integration and efficient management, ensuring that computing resources and the support connectivity infrastructure (Haryana State Wide Area Network) is adequately and optimally used. The SDC will be equipped to host / co-locate systems (e.g. Web Servers, Application Servers, Database Servers, SAN, and NAS etc.) facilitating the hosting of multiple applications centrally at the Haryana State Data Centre and shall have high availability with centralized authenticating system to authenticate the users to access their respective systems depending on the authentication matrix.

All the required IT and non IT infrastructure for Haryana state Date Centre has been installed, commissioned and power on test has already been conducted. The domain name i.e. hsdc.gov.in for Haryana State Data Centre has also been registered and pilot applications for election department Haryana and e district are already operational through this data centre. Further, internet lease line has also been provided for running these online applications.
